Everything is well in New York, my days have been mostly catching up with friends and walking lazily around. Letting the summer heat slow my routine and mind down. Here’s a photo of the shop cat at Quimby’s in Williamsburg where I bought an armful of zines.

It's funny, when I offered to courier some books from Hong Kong to New York, I didn't know or have any assumptions as to what the books would be. I actually own a copy of Acts of Departure but haven't read it yet and left it in my office at school by the time I picked up the books.
So on Saturday afternoon I wound up deciding to go to Art and Culture Outreach to acquire another copy to bring with me on the plane to read. I was planning on swinging by to buy some books for other friends. I've been feeling anxiety about this long flight (not having done such a long flight since 2020 at the start of the pandemic) and thought perhaps the book's company and the synchronicity with the dispatch would bring me comfort.

Kennedy Airport, reading most of the time since there are repeated signs to not use phones. The paragraph on the second page pictured here says, “a letter can cross the planet via ocean cables and electromagnetic waves that connect us in the most unsatisfying yet practical ways.” This is really the reason I flew to New York, it wasn’t sufficient to message and call my friend anymore, we needed to be in a room together.

Everything is well in New York, my days have been mostly catching up with friends and walking lazily around. Letting the summer heat slow my routine and mind down. Here’s a photo of the shop cat at Quimby’s in Williamsburg where I bought an armful of zines.

It's funny, when I offered to courier some books from Hong Kong to New York, I didn't know or have any assumptions as to what the books would be. I actually own a copy of Acts of Departure but haven't read it yet and left it in my office at school by the time I picked up the books.
So on Saturday afternoon I wound up deciding to go to Art and Culture Outreach to acquire another copy to bring with me on the plane to read. I was planning on swinging by to buy some books for other friends. I've been feeling anxiety about this long flight (not having done such a long flight since 2020 at the start of the pandemic) and thought perhaps the book's company and the synchronicity with the dispatch would bring me comfort.

The paragraph on the second page pictured here says, “a letter can cross the planet via ocean cables and electromagnetic waves that connect us in the most unsatisfying yet practical ways.” This is really the reason I flew to New York, it wasn’t sufficient to message and call my friend anymore, we needed to be in a room together.

We received your order, thank you very much! Unfortunately, it turns out to be a bit of awkward timing, because a few extra copies of Chuăng had only just been discovered in our backstock a couple of weeks ago, and we sold them all at the art book fair in Hong Kong just the weekend before your placed your order, before we had time to update the website to list them as sold out again.
So we don't have any copies available! I remember that you were interested to purchase Chuăng 1 way back when you ordered number 2, so in apologies for our not very operable distro, I'd like to ask if you would be interested to have the last remaining copy of Chuăng 1 (from our own archive), the cover of which is sun faded and damaged. The inside pages are all fine.
If you don't mind to wait for LIGHT LOGISTICS feral couriering, we may have a travel to Texas over the summer and can arrange to get it to you then free of cost. RECEIVER UPDATE： I did not meet NON yet 😅 they were very busy with the conference. We planned to meet at my work place (new Korean restaurant and cocktail bar) but they weren’t able to make it. I think there was quite a lot going for NON and they didn’t have the package with them in any case. I’ve also been so busy with this new place opening. I plan to head to NYC end of the month/beginning of May so I hope to stop along the way in CT and maybe see NON then. I’ll be in touch once I know more about my schedule and ability to leave town!

I do have a friend in New Haven... and maybe he will be so kind as to keep my book safe and pass it on to me at some point. You see, I’m traveling to Iceland in a few days and won’t be back until 8/9.
I will ask my friend if he can hold my book for me. He works at DAE New Haven, a nonprofit arts education space. The space is at 770 Chapel St. Let me just confirm that he wants to help me before you drop it off there. How long will the courier-friend be in New Haven? I see some notes about a PhD August 16. Even if the courier-friend might be able to drop off my book with my (soon to be courier-)friend (ha) I would really like to meet this international courier-friend sometime, and treat them to a meal.

I met with ZZ on March 5th at Cafe Mano. That day just happened to be the first anniversary of my moving to Berlin, and ZZ was saying her final goodbyes as she was moving back to Taiwan after seven years in Germany. ZZ said she had always wanted to go to this cafe, which was recommended by a friend, but had never been able to. It's right next to where I used to live and where I used to meet my friends when I first came to Berlin, and on the 5th of March right before international Women's Day, it was where I was busy with partners from the Mainland, Hong Kong, and Taiwan writing a collective open letter from Chinese queers and feminists in support of Palestine. ZZ had originally asked me to meet her at 2pm, but since I had a meeting with the March 8 group on Zoom at 2pm, I had to postpone it until 3pm. I arrived at Cafe Mano at 2 only to find out that due to the time zone difference with UTC+08, I got the meeting time was wrong and had missed it. I sent a message to ZZ telling her to come earlier. As I waited, I saw a Chinese girl walk in. This place has a hippie vibe in bohemian neighbourhood of Berlin, and Chinese people are not commonly seen here. Seeing her looking around for someone, I thought of course it must be ZZ so walked over to her, only to be embarrassed that I was mistaken. At three o'clock ZZ arrived and she handed over the books. We chatted for two hours, shared our frustrations about Germany, and then said goodbye at this small crossroads of both of our lives.

After successfully running HQL-543, courier Mr. TONG makes a purchase from the Display Distribute distro and picks up two other dispatches to bring all back with him to Europe; the handover takes place in the afternoon of the last day before departure; in between visiting an island bookshop and looking for tasty beef noodles, dispatches HQL-547, HQL-548, and HQL-549 are transferred from one backpack to another while enjoying dessert and strolling conversation about receiving e-mail from the boss while still on leave, dark patterns, the inescapability of capitalism at the root of most societal problems
letting you know that there will be a copy of a new book in the dispatch that is on its way to you. the courier lives in Köln, so we will still need to find a relay, but details to follow. that new book will hopefully temporarily pacify you for the misadventure that I wasn't able to find copies of Letters: The classroom is burning, let’s dream about a School of Improper Education when we were packing your order, because everything in the new relay centre is all still quite a mess! Apologies for that, but there are certainly still copies somewhere, so will have to separately dispatch that to you in the future. Regarding the LUMBUNG schwag pack , what is left from that may not be so interesting for you (guessing you have most of it already), but were you able to get all the digital downloads this time? the books from that pack have already been claimed so only PDFs left.

Thanks both for the handover. Very happy this all worked out so well, and with such a beautiful packet. We’ll try meet Christiane this week to finalise the delivery!
I have handed over the book to Christiane yesterday and here are some pictures I took. It was a pleasant encounter with Christiane and her friends at a local gallery where she had her exhibition. Interestingly, a guy I know is also somehow connected to Christiane's friends, what a small world!
I should be in Cologne on 04.11. So, it would be no problem for me to just meet Christiane somewhere in the city and give her the books. (anywhere she prefers as long as it's easy to find, Cologne is not big to be honest.)
