慢遞員BEDIR小姐更新：「我們這條線可以追溯到疫情剛爆發的時候，當時我在安卡拉，慢遞員何子在香港。當時的想法是在因為武漢的紙張和印刷成本最低，在那裡印刷「黑書眾」的第一期報紙，但是武漢那個時候是疫情第一個爆發的地方，整個地方封城了；我查了一下在安卡拉印刷的話會多貴，原來幾乎和中國一樣，所以我們就決心在土耳其印了。我們想的是可以帶著盡可能的多少去不同的地方，例如馬德里、鹿特丹、提華納/聖地亞哥和墨爾本，然後剩下的可以帶到香港；但鹿特丹之後，因為全世界的COVID都在旅行限制我的其它行程被取消了。當時我給中繼夥伴接力慢遞員吳索小姐和Timmetje先生留下了一堆，其中許多份隨緩件號HQL-364去了曼谷、墨西哥和香港；兩年後的今天，我終於再次接下了這個任務，拿回了大部分留下的報紙，並計劃在何子回香港的途中，把它們帶到伊斯坦布爾進行中繼。不幸的是，因為她的航班被改變了，何子的旅程沒有去成，她不得不重新訂票經過首爾。最後，報紙在我位於鹿特丹的Marina家的房間里等待轉運」
COURIER Ms. BEDIR UPDATE：This correspondence roots back to the beginning of COVID, when I was in Ankara and courier Ms. PORTABLE was in Hong Kong. The idea was to print the first newsletter of Black Book Assembly in Wuhan, where the paper and the printing costs would be the least, but Wuhan, where the pandemic first broke out, was the eye of the storm then, and everyone was at home in full confinement. I checked about the costs of printing the newsletter in Ankara, which was almost the same as Wuhan, so we went for it. The idea was that I bring as many copies as possible with me to different places, eg, Madrid, Rotterdam, Tijuana/San Diengo, and Melbourne, then bring the rest to Hong Kong. The rest of the trip after Rotterdam was cancelled though, doing to worldwide COVID shutdowns. I had left a stack of copies with relay partners Amy S. Wu and Timmetje at the time, and many of them made it with HQL-364 to Bangkok, Mexico, and Hong Kong. Today, two years later I've finally picked up the mission again, taking back the majority of copies left and planning to bring them to Istanbul for relay with PORTABLE's stopover on her way back to Hong Kong. Unfortunately, PORTABLE's journey didn't happen becuase her flight was changed, and she had to re-route through Seoul. At the end of the day, the newsletters are now waiting tranfer in my room at Marina's house in Rotterdam; awaiting relay

慢遞員官小姐更新：「更詳細的信息——我坐了中華航空航班號CL-74，1月10日早上7:02到達台灣；我還是在隔離中，要到25號00:00才被放出來；因為上個星期在台灣有了第一個醫生病例，之後還有他的四個同事也病了，這邊都對於外來的人更謹慎；機場的工作人員都非常有經驗，整個入境過程比較順利——有一個專門的的士安排送從機場來的乘客直接到隔離酒店；酒店處於台中的一本比較中心的位置，離我曾經工作了四年時間（2014-2018）的國立臺灣美術館不遠」
COURIER Mr. KUAN's UPDATE：For more detailed information, I was flying with China airlines flight CL-74 and arrived at Taiwan at 7:02 am, 10th January. Indeed I'm still quarantined and will be free on 25th midnight. As the first doctor got COVID-19 a week ago, and 4 more colleagues of his were later infected, people here are more cautious with travellers from abroad, who are more likely to bring back the virus. The airport staff were all experienced and well-trained regarding the whole arrival processes. I went back to Taichung directly by a special taxi which only takes travellers from the airport to quarantine hotels. The hotel is located in a busy area in Taichung, not too far from the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Art, where I had worked for more than 4 years from 2014 to 2018.

慢遞員CRAMER先生的更新 COURIER Mr. CRAMER's UPDATE： HQL-364 is currently quarantined in a hotel in Taichung; I hope it's not a major letdown that we have only been able to bag 13 copies because of the bulkiness of Yenting's luggage. My agreement with Amy was that she would give me a large stack of copies and that I would return to her whatever wouldn't fit the luggage. The remaining 62 copies are currently at my home and still need to returned to Amy, who lives nearby. As a special detail, she gave me the copies in a bag of the German drug store chain DM, which was founded and is owned by an anthroposopher (and very popular among Taiwanese tourists visiting Germany, along with the German-made "China-Öl"/"China Oil" remedy on which we both, Yenting and me, are making a zine). Anthroposophy—which was also the belief system and ideology underlying Joseph Beuys' 'social sculpture'—has recently come under closer critical attention since anthroposophers are at the core of the Corona denier movement in Germany and have organized mass protests together with neo-Nazis; I will let you know as soon as the 62 copies have returned to Amy.

COURIER Mr. SHUKAITIS' UPDATE：Thanks for your message. Given the epochal delays involved here I'm more than fine with just putting the package in the post, and hope that wouldn't violate the rules of feral logisticality (or at least that such violation could be overlooked in the interest of the package arriving prior to the heat death of the universe). I also regret to tell you that in the meantime it does seem that occasionally a neighborhood cat has been coming into my house (to eat my cat's food) and has sometimes been, uhm, 'marking' territory on the bottom shelf of the bookcase. Though the upside here is that your package is well wrapped in plastic and thus hopefully has fared much better than other publications in the vicinity.

Realising that the former café visitor now turned receiver will probably not come back to Taiyuan any time soon, Ms. DD decides to pass of dispatch HQL-353 to her only friend from Linfen, Doudou, who is studying for a PhD in mathematics in Taiyuan, very enlightening for Ms. DD. They meet about twice a month for an idle chit-chat of nonsense. Their WeChat group is filled with all kinds of formulas, theorems and even astrological theories. They've shared the following meals together: chicken and mushroom patties, red bean and vegetable tarts and strawberry waffles. Driving from north end of Taiyuan to the south, Mr. MURONG makes a turn on a road blanketed with freshly fallen snow. "Can we go to your place?" he asks to Ms. DD, light logistician of the Taiyuan Relay Centre. They shortcut through a few small alleyways, listening to a friend from Guangzhou sitting in the backseat talking about some park in Hong Kong. She's newly emigrated to Hong Kong from the mainland and a good friend of Mr. MURONG. As they talk about Hong Kong, and then a certain artist named HO in Hong Kong, and then independent publishing, Ms. DD's eyes suddenly widen with a twinkle: "Hey, do you want to be a slow courier?"
As they near Ms. DD's home/Taiyuan Relay Centre, courier Mr. MURONG dutifully picks up his camera and asks, "Can we document the way to your house then?" After they finally make it back, their gathering continues with the playing of music instruments, until a sudden complaint of after 10pm noise from the neighbour upstairs shuts the party down.

收件人到了香港，和『展銷場』的慢遞員連續交流，一直等待一位在北角住宿，另一個轉運中心在新界屯門，可以有一個更方便的交界地點和時間；期間世界又縮小了一點——兩位發現還是有共同的朋友，中間人也本來打算慢遞到台灣的，可是收件人自己來到香港還是一個好機會；Telegram了幾天玩地理遊戲，21號晚上終於能約上派送和交接——收件人先逛了一天尖沙咀的歷史博物館，慢遞員何子在佐敦的Eaton酒店借用一個不用消費可以座一天的空間來幹活，後來兩位在Eaton大廳終於認識，聊一會關於台灣政治情況影響的旅行。收件人HW原來來到香港辦台灣沒法辦的孟加拉国簽證！接下來三個月就要把書先慢遞到孟加拉国出差

『展銷場』跟廣州的夥伴有各種層次的「交流」，這次也引起了一批慢遞來帶最近被捕的藝術家楊立才的一些「藝術商店」貨物到香港。這些藝術品，獨立出版等禮品準備用來眾籌支持老羊的律師費和他媽媽一個人在深圳的生活費。慢遞員譚小姐每個一個星期都從廣州來深圳教書，她這次也可以用『女子天團』小組改造的二手環保袋來裝緩件HQL-344，袋子也準備用做「後勤」慢遞的「宣傳包裝品」。慢遞員何子從香港過關到深圳找譚小姐交接，兩位見面聊了一小會，freakouthappybunny譚也提醒了何子說香港人到內地也越來越不安全，以後可以讓她來帶過去香港
Multi-layered dealings with comrades in Guangzhou instigate a search for a courier to bring an emergency stock of work from YANG Licai's "Art Store" to Hong Kong as part of a fundraiser for aid since his arrest by mainland authorities; these pieces, including Lao YANG's publications, artwork and drawings from his mother, are conveniently carried over by courier Ms. freakouthappybunny to Shenzhen in a tote bag reduxed by the NZTT Sewing Cooperative and to be used as LIGHT LOGISTICAL material for future dispatches. Courier freakouthappybunny travels every other week to Shenzhen from her residence in Guangzhou for a teaching job and during her brief encounter with courier Ms. PORTABLE before a meeting, she advises PORTABLE that it is indeed less and less safe for Hongkongers to come to the mainland; freakouthappybunny will visit Hong Kong again in the near future and is more than happy to make a sensitive cross-border carry-on then.

Despite many delays, The Book of Failure is finally received by one of its contributors without failure in a small cafe over a bottle of initially acidic but after airing, lovely, round wine. The giggly conversation includes a critique about the recently opened Singapore Biennale and a delve into esoteric film collections and home-cooking for intimate situations. The evening ends with an appointment for a near-future intimate meeting with food.

I’ve dispatched 5 of the book 9 books that I took. They’ve been given to Kin, Godwin, Selene, and Jia Yun, and a close friend, Fiona, interested in publishing, resistance and likes Hong Kong a lot. 2 books are for me and my partner Renée.
The books took quite a journey from parasite and through the protests that night at Hong Kong island. They might have little tear gas particles, but mostly sweat from that night.
I realized I didn’t actually tell any of the receivers this even though I had planned to. I’m not sure why either. I guess I didn’t want to sensationalize the happenings in Hong Kong anymore for friends who watch it from afar. Instead, I focused on the positive things that I got out of being in Hong Kong and joining the protests, rather than the teargas.
I really want to talk about the situation in Hong Kong more, in fact I feel like I have to, to get things out of my mind from watching it anxiously from afar everyday. I find it really difficult to talk about it in Singapore. I just got into a really bad quarrel with my dad about it. And the taxi driver who picked me from the airport after I came back from the airport had a long painful conversation about it too, calling me stupid kid for joining the movement.
I have been carrying a copy of the book in my bag everyday now partly because I’m still reading it and partly because I might bump into one of the receivers (this method of dispatch has worked well!). I read the book really slowly, and don’t really want to finish it. I guess because I still have a few to dispatch anyway. Maybe also because I’m still thinking of Hong Kong everyday.
Still waiting to bump into Vicks and Robert. I don’t see Robert often so I guess I will probably keep the book in my bag for some time more.

在廣州沒找到慢遞員轉運HQL-264和HQL-265到上海，慢遞員何小姐很痛苦地準備把兩件帶回香港去。走之前她路過了「女子噪音電台」的錄音棚，來跟廣州的一個試驗音樂樂團jam一下。在空間的時候跟朋友們聊她失敗的慢遞故事，然後剛好有一個空間的工作人員聽著聽著就說：「我要去上海」。然後何小姐就坐在空間地下重新包裝兩個緩件，給計劃2月初到上海旅遊的新慢遞員廖小姐接力
After a failed attempt for Guangzhou-Shanghai relay, courier Ms. HO prepares to bring back dispatches HQL-264 and HQL-265 back to Hong Kong. Before she leaves, she stops by the "Noise Radio FEM" recording pavilion for a jam with friends from a noise band in Guangzhou. While hanging out at the space, she tells the story of her failed relay to a friend and a bystander who works in the art space. After hearing her story, the bystander hesistantly says, "I am going to Shanghai". And so a wild packing marathon begins, and two dispatches are handed over the new courier Baoxin, who plans to travel to Shanghai for holiday at the beginning of February

9月8日正式磪認這項慢遞的任務。以下的思考是發生在9月8日獲得更多資訊之後，究竟如何達成這次慢遞呢？
On 8 September I finalised the details of the courier errand. The following thoughts occurred to me that night after getting more information, but it was still a question, how would this slow-courier route go?
當我停一停定一定靜心望望關於「後勤慢遞」的思念，以及過去的紀錄，我直覺就問了「後勤慢遞」工作人員，點解要book客貨van？當時食左入個肚未講得完整的疑問是：慢遞好明顯就係批判晚期資本主要當中既有的關係及做法，反建議實踐起來，所以租客車，點對點既直接有效，而且物件的重量，連同慢遞員坐車實在太慳水慳力，所以都好似同個計劃不太配合，所以問了慢遞員一句，點解book車，我獲得的原因是：
When I stopped for a moment and took the time to think calmly about the thinking behind LIGHT LOGISTICS, and looked through the past records, my instinct was to ask the light logistician, why do I have to book a rental van for this transport? What lay at the bottom of my gut, but could not be fully expressed yet, was the doubt: LIGHT LOGISTICS is very clearly a counter-practice critical of the relations and ways of late-stage capitalism, so renting a van and going very efficiently directly from point to point, accompanied by a courier who rides along and barely moves a muscle, seems to not exactly fit the whole project. That's why I asked the light logistician about why the need to call a van, and this is the answer I received:

1) The artwork has to be handled carefully
2) There is a concern for boycotting the MTR because of recent sociopolitical events
我發現我聽既時做是在思考如何做了他人的這件事.我在9月9日食午飯時才把這件事發展成我的事。9月9日我在深水埗出發，大概用了既有起身食野過海的習慣去計算時間，預算了三點半抵達，我就用搭地鐘既時間同趕食飯的速度去諗，當我食午飯的時候，我想起了原因二，然後在明知一直會遲過三點半的預計下，施施然找中對號的巴士，氣定神閒去巴士站，就是3:40仍在巴士上寫著感想點解講左畀人知三點半會到，就好想三點半要到，呢件事真係要拆碎去望當中成份是什麼，有幾多係資本主義社會迫成你要咁樣
I realised that while I heard this I was contemplating the situation as if it was somebody else's issue. It wasn't until the 9th of September while I was eating lunch that I slowly came around and made this my issue. I calculated the usual time it would take me to get up, eat and cross the harbour, and departing from Shamshuipo, estimated that I could arrive by 3:30 pm. But while I was eating, I remembered the second answer about the MTR, so while looking for which bus to take instead it became clear that I would be later than my 3:30 estimate. I walked leisurely to the bus stop, and by 3:40 I was still on the bus, writing these thoughts down and thinking to myself why did I tell them I would arrive at 3:30? I really wanted to arrive by 3:30, but if we broke down that urgency, how much would we find of it to be created by capitalist society making us that way?

Anyway I dealt with it, despite still feeling a bit of resistance.

Courier Ms. PORTABLE leaps at the opportunity for a paid courier job from Hong Kong to the Amsterdam, having been enlisted to bring a freshly produced book called The Book of Failure from the workshop to its editors. Coincidentally, the art transport of pieces from The Bicycle Thieves exhibition in Hong Kong must be arranged for approximately the same period, including one work by Belgian artist Dries DEPOORTER, who requests that his work Quick Fix be brought back to Ghent as soon as possible. Ms. PORTABLE decides to kill two birds with one stone, arranges the pre-exhibition closing removal of the artist's work and volunteers her services thinking that it would be easy to find a Netherlands-Belgium courier. When she goes to the art space to pick up the artwork, however, realises that its clunky bulk and weight make for quite an unhandy task, so like any responsible courier would do, she takes it upon herself to travel from Amsterdam to Ghent for a same-day transport and EU joy ride.
