Railing Codex

Description

《Railing Codex》是一個裝置、一個社區打印店和一本集體字典，由藝術組織欄桿外Pararailing（邵捷、徐思行和葉雪粲）、他們的朋友和他們朋友的朋友共同創作。作為對 「後疫情 」世界里意義坍縮的回應，《Railing Codex》於2022年發起，邀請文化從業者——藝術家、策展人、寫作者、詩人、學者和藝術行業工作者——每人為一個詞條貢獻一個詞典定義。

現在，這個項目借由傾斜字典的形式成為一本藝術家書，其中收錄了《Railing Codex》的前八卷。在每一卷中，參與寫作的作者從指定列表中選擇一個單詞，並用自己選擇的體裁和語言對其進行解釋和意義的重塑。然後，作者需要從完成的詞條中額外挑選一個詞語納入下一卷的詞庫，同時邀請另一名寫作者加入下一卷的撰寫。被提名的作家從新的詞語列表中選擇詞條并繼續寫作。

Railing Codex is an installation, a community print shop, and a collective dictionary created by Pararailing (SHAO Jie Shao, XU Sixing and YE Xuecan), their friends, and friends of their friends. Launched in 2022 as a response to the slippage of meaning that marks our post-pandemic world, Railing Codex invites cultural practitioners—artists, curators, writers, poets, scholars, and arts workers—to each contribute a dictionary definition for a word.

This project has now been materialised into an artist’s book in the form of a slanted dictionary which collects the first eight volumes of Railing Codex. In each volume, contributors select one word from a designated list and interpret it in their chosen genre and language. Then, contributors each select one word from their respective entry and nominate a writer to participate in the next volume. The nominated writer chooses from this new list of words to continue writing.
