미디어버스 ‘선언문 시리즈’의 세 번째 책으로, 중국 젊은 세대의 감정과 조건을 대변하며 큰 반향을 일으킨 《탕핑주의자 선언》이 한국어판으로 출간되었다.

이 선언문은 2021년 6월, 중국 온라인 커뮤니티에 익명의 누군가가 쓴 글로 처음 등장하였고, ‘탕핑(躺平)’이라는 단어는 이후 하나의 사회적 키워드가 되었다. ‘탕핑’은 ‘드러눕기’를 뜻하는 말로, 성취를 강요하는 경쟁 사회에서 벗어나 최소한의 삶을 선택하겠다는 저항의 태도를 상징한다. 단순한 체념이 아니라 체제를 거부하는 방식으로 ‘하지 않기’를 선택하는, 중국 청년 세대의 새로운 삶의 윤리를 담고 있다. 해당 글은 발표 직후 중국 내에서 폭발적인 반향을 일으켰으며, 곧바로 정부의 검열 대상이 되었지만, 다양한 방식으로 재유포되며 21세기 중국 청년들의 새로운 저항 언어로 자리잡게 되었다.

이번 한국어판은 홍명교가 번역해 플랫폼C에 게재한 버전을 바탕으로, 중국어 원문과 영어, 한국어 세 언어를 함께 수록하였다.

《躺平主義者宣言》是出版社 Mediabus「宣言系列」的第三本書。此宣言代表了中國年輕一代的情感與處境，曾引起過巨大反響，現以中英韓三語合併出版。

這份宣言最初於2021年6月，以匿名形式發表於中國的網路論壇，隨後帶動「躺平」一詞成了中國的社會熱詞。「躺平」代表了一種抵抗姿態——擺脫強求成就的競爭社會，選擇最低限度的生活方式；也反映出中國年輕一代嶄新的生活倫理——不是單純的認命，而是以「不作為」的方式拒絕體制。本文在發表後不久便在中國國內引起轟動，並立刻成為中國政府的審查對象。但藉由各種渠道的持續傳播，「躺平」最終確立為21世紀中國年輕人新的抵抗語言。

As the third title in Mediabus’ Manifesto Series, “The Tangpingist Manifesto”, now published in Korean and English together with the original Chinese, re-sparks the widespread resonance it has held with younger generations of Chinese since it first appeared in June 2021.

The term tăng píng (躺平), literally meaning ‘lying flat’, soon became a buzzword. It symbolises a stance of refusal: a choice to opt for a minimalist lifestyle, breaking free from a competitive society that demands constant achievement. It embodies a new life ethic among China’s young generation—not mere resignation, but a deliberate choice to ‘do nothing’ as a form of rejection of the system. Written and posted online anonymously, the post sparked an explosive reaction within China immediately after its publication and was promptly subject to government censorship; however, it was reposted in various forms and has since established itself as a new language of resistance for 21st-century Chinese youth.
